"Author Kevin Hughes has done it again! Excellent dialog, superb plotting and one incredible story all rolled up in one good book. Hughes has put together a group of characters, good guys and bad, that will peak the interest of any lover of high-quality detective fiction. All that, and a good surprise ending as well. "Dogging Truth" is just that, good detective fiction. Actually, it's more than good detective fiction; it's great and deserves a hearty 'well-done.'"
"Author Kevin Hughes is back with another nail-biting whodunit starring the flawed but lovable ex-cop detective Toby Jenkins. When T.J.'s ex-wife convinces him to help her beat a client’s murder rap, it’s another painful reminder that he and lawyers—especially this one—don’t mix. Once again Hughes’ cast of characters leap off the pages and into your imagination. While you’re always rooting for T.J. to catch the bad guys, you wish the story wouldn’t have to end for him to do it."
Brennan Nardi, Editor, Madison Magazine
"A murder suspect who seems to be a lock for conviction thinks Toby Jenkins may be the answer to his prayers. TJ's new adventure, Dogging Truth, is surely the answer for anyone looking for a well-told, intriguing mystery."
Marshall Cook, Author and UW Professor of Creative Writing
"With his portrayal of a strong female character and well thought out story line, this was a catchy suspense novel to read. I enjoyed the many facets of the novel, and I suspected someone the whole way through, only to find I was wrong."
"The characters seem so real. They make the reader want to keep turning the pages to follow them."
Kathleen Osten, The McFarland Thistle
On
a cold December day, two boys skip school seeking adventure and make a horrific
discovery: the nude, beaten body of a mother of three young children. The
community is abuzz, and its outrage heightens when the woman’s estranged
husband, who happens to be a deputy sheriff, is arrested for her murder.
A weak alibi, along with a police detective’s facile interpretation of motive, makes the husband the only person in the suspect column. Although he desperately proclaims his innocence, things aren’t looking good for Robert Weborg. What the man needs is a skillful advocate, to bring reason to his situation and free him from the hateful allegations. He prays for intervention, and for once in his life, it seems someone is listening.
Never one to walk away from a challenge, attorney Elizabeth Kramer takes on Weborg’s defense, but after examining the daunting evidence, realizes she needs help. Her solution? Convince ex-husband Toby Jenkins—a former police officer himself and a man who knows murder—to work with her. TJ is reluctant, but Elizabeth is a skillful guilt broker and he gives in, trekking down a confusing path that challenges his principles of right and wrong.
As TJ peels away layers of evidence in the convoluted investigation, he finds himself in a world of secrets and conflict, love and hate. In the end he affirms what he’s always known, that the best way to prove a case is by Dogging Truth.
